Berati – Live Like A Local & Lodge

Berati  is  one of the most beautiful towns in Albania. You have the opportunity to experience the local living of Albanians and take a taste from their hospitality and their traditions.

Do you want to feel like an Albanian? If yes, then let’s get under their skin and stay in a local house with the locals. Enjoy their hospitality and help them cook food for you.

They will be happy to teach you some of their traditional dishes. See their daily life and understand the Albanian traditions. Know about the history and architecture of this place and also share histories with the locals.

• The perfect place to start is Berati Castle. This 2400 old castle has been home to local people since the 4th century BC and has never been vacated. Walk around Berati castle and learn more about its history from your local tour guide. Guided tour of Onufri Museum.  
•  After that, we will go for lunch at Temi’s restaurant. Temi turned his home into a restaurant. His wife will prepare our lunch and his daughters will serve us the food. We can sit on the 2nd floor or at the tables outside • Proceed with the other parts of Berat, old Mosques, and many other monuments along with the Downtown District. Gorica & Mangalem Quarter
• King Mosque and Helveti Teqe – Learn more about Islam in Albania and the tolerance between the religions .
  Dinner at Nina & Fredi house – Lodge • Meet Nina Fredi and their son Arjan. They are a traditional Albanian family living inside Berati Castle. Their house was built during the XVII century, and they are trying to keep it as it was without making any changes. Fredi is a master in building furniture, and Arjan is following the steps of his father.
• Have a little coffee and a glass of raki to warm up. After raki and reading the future on the Turkish café cap, see what it is like to be a guest in a traditional Berat family. They are warm, kind, and even though they know only a few words in English and Italian, one can understand their smile and what they want to say.
