Valbone is a starting point for a lot of tours where you can choose your next destination. With this tour we are starting from Valbone to get to Maja e Kollates.
The starting point for this trail is in front of Valbona Tourist Center, near the trail which leads you to Rosi Peak. You begin with the crossing of Valbona River, which is the last water source for this hike. The paths direct you to a small Valley. During this hike you will have on the left Maja e Thatë peak (2’406 m/alt), one of the most difficult mountain peaks.
The following steps lead you to a rocky hill, where it’s necessary to use your hands to climb it, which is the most difficult part. This will bring you to the top of Kolata massif. From this point you climb the Maja e Kollatës peak (2’556 m/alt), Kollata e keqe (also known as Zla Kolata 2’534 m/alt) and Kollata e mirë (also known as Dobra Kolata 2’528 m/alt).
After reaching the Maja e Kollatës peak, the trail continues straight to a part called the Balcony. Of course this is the most beautiful part of the trail, where you can enjoy the stunning views of the Valbone Valley. Might be this is the best view of this valley in comparison to all other peaks. Due to the reason that the terrain is rocky and in some places slippery, this peak is usually climbed during the summer. Distance in total is 17 km.
This is considered a difficult hike. Since there isn’t any water source on this trail, be sure to have enough water, and take around 3-4 liters.
